Idaho House district 32 shifted numbers in the latest round of redistricting. This district covers Bonneville county including parts of Idaho Falls and Ammon.
Stephanie Mickelsen is a Conservative Republican candidate running for the Idaho House of Representatives. Stephanie is a mother, small business owner, and community leader who is passionate about making Idaho a better place for families. Stephanie will fight to reduce taxes and regulations that are strangling our economy, and she will work to create jobs and opportunities for all Idahoans. Stephanie knows that we can make Idaho a great place to live and do business by giving people the freedom to succeed.
In District 32, rural citizens are affected by conservative policies. Stephanie Mickelsen aims to make a difference for people in District 32 through her background in agriculture and public service. She’s spent decades working on Idaho agricultural policy and has hands-on experience working with the Idaho legislature and the Governor’s office.
As a farmer, Mickelsen maintains ties with local governments and works to promote Idaho agriculture. She has held the position of president of the Bonneville County Farm Bureau as well as an Idaho Farm Bureau director. Through her work, Mickelsen has learned the value of engaging government officials in discussions.
Mickelsen was recently interviewed by BYU Idaho Radio. In the interview she said the following:
“I have learned… how important it is for farmers to be engaged in the political process,” Michelsen said. “We are less than 3% of the population but 100% of us eat every single day.”
Mickelsen is concerned about what she sees as excessive government regulation when it comes to state and federal government. Since they began farming 34 years ago, Mickelsen and her spouse have noticed an increase in state and federal legislation.
She also told BYU Idaho Radio, “We really need to look at making sure that we don’t tax somebody out of a home that they have owned for most of their adult life,”
Mickelsen is a strong conservative and lifelong Republican. She and her husband Mark run one of the largest potato-growing operations in the state.
Mickelsen’s opponent is tied to Stand Up Idaho, a far-right group that spread vaccine misinformation and opposed wearing masks during the pandemic. Nicholas Christiansen, a former INL employee who claims he was fired after speaking out about vaccine mandates announced his candidacy recently.
