Bernie Sanders was never supposed to be a contender in the eyes of the DNC. They had the most experienced, media backed candidate since Obama ran in 2008. This was Hillary’s election to win. Bernie, the unlikely candidate changed everything.
Bernie Sanders rode the wave of populism against corrupt Washington politics. People wanted to hear a message about the evils of corporate greed and how it has kept them down. Bernie swooped in and captured the dreams of democracy’s victims.
Sanders’ life changing message of government unburdening the debt and worries of young Americans resonated across the country. It awakened a sleeping generation of millennials and took to them to a magical place of more hopeful dreams and promises.
Hooked on the promise of higher paying minimum wage jobs, government paid college tuition and universal healthcare, the youth of the nation jumped on board Sander’s ship. Armed with dreams and a popular message they sought to win a battle to never land Hillary Clinton in the White House.
Bernie’s campaign hopes were disarmed by Hillary’s loyal super delegates. They bit off a large percentage of the votes needed to win the nomination.
With western states wins fueling his momentum, each new victory whittles away at Clinton’s lead. Sanders won Idaho, Utah, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii caucuses with healthy margins.
His campaign is well funded as millions of people donate their wishes in the form of small donations, fueling the fairy dust that keeps his revolution flying forward.
The Democratic National Committee allegedly conspired against Sanders by limiting the number of debates early on. Each debate was held during times the fewest number of people were watching TV and hoping nobody would notice. As people began to feel the “bern” calls for more debates grew louder and eventually the DNC caved.
In the end, the Bernie Sanders campaign will end as it fought hard against the looming shadow of Hillary Clinton. The magic of his campaign will fade as people face the grim reality of their daily lives and eventual need to get a job to pay the bills.
