Twitter Blue May Include Verification For Subscribers Who Pay a Monthly Fee

Elon Musk says that Twitter will revise how it verifies users and is likely to charge a monthly for the verification badge. This move would be a significant change for Twitter, which has typically been reluctant to verify users or charge monthly fees for its service. It remains to be seen how this will all play out, but it’s clear that now the new head of Twitter, Elon Musk is putting pressure on Twitter to make some changes.

Since Elon Musk took control of the microblogging site, he has been dropping hints and updating Twitter about the changes that are coming. Musk now says that Twitter will change its verification process. Musk tweeted that the whole verification process was being revamped at this time, without providing any details about what might change.

Platformer, a technology newsletter, reported that Twitter may charge for the blue check mark, which verifies the identity of account holders. It was reported by two people familiar with this matter.

According to the report, users would need to subscribe to Twitter Blue for $4.99 per month or lose their badges “verified” if the project is to move forward.

What is Twitter Blue and Will it Include Verification?

Twitter Blue is a new subscription service that would grant users access to “advanced” features, such as an undo button that would let users recall tweets before they’re published. It’s not clear if verification would be included in this subscription, but it seems likely considering Musk’s tweet.

We will have to wait and see what Twitter decides to do with its verification process, but it’s clear that Elon Musk is putting pressure on the company to make some changes. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

How Much Will The New Twitter Verification Subscription Cost?

According to another report from The Verge, Twitter plans to charge $19.99 per month for its new Twitter Blue subscription. The report states that the deadline for launching the feature was set on November 7 by employees involved in the project. If they fail to do so, they will be fired.

Currently, Twitter blue costs $4.99 US per month.

Tesla Inc’s CEO has yet to make a decision. The project could be abandoned, but Platformer suggests that verification will likely become part of Twitter Blue.

Twitter Blue, the first subscription service that offers exclusive access to premium features on a monthly basis, was launched last June. It includes the ability to edit tweets.

Musk insisted on making the feature to edit tweets available after a poll was conducted in April among his millions of followers. More than 70% of respondents voted yes.

The billionaire also asked that users who log out of Twitter’s site be directed to the Explore page, which displays trending tweets. The Verge reported Sunday that employees familiar with the matter.

Musk took control of Twitter after completing the $44 billion deal with Twitter. Parag Agarwal and Vijay Gadde, the legal head, and Nel Segal, the CFO, were fired. Musk, the Tesla CEO, wants Twitter to be a free space and to collaborate with humanity.
