Donald Trump Wins Indiana Primary – Time for Cruz to Quit
It is time for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to suspend his campaign after his devastating loss in Indiana. Cruz exhausted every effort to win the GOP nomination and now he needs to end his campaign with dignity before he loses all respect from Republican voters.
Cruz lost to New York businessman Donald Trump in the Indiana Primary today. Amongst all the drama of Trump’s accusations of Cruz’s father working with JFK’s assassin and Cruz’s rant against Trump, the voters have decided that they want Trump.
Cruz ran a campaign designed to appeal to the extreme right wing of the Republican party. His efforts pushed out better candidates like Marco Rubio and helped pave the way for a Trump nomination. With this significant loss in Indiana, moving forward would be a lost cause. The GOP is already starting to rally around it’s presumptive nominee. The real battle between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump is about to begin.
Who Will Trump Pick for Vice President?
With Republican establishment figures rapidly gathering around Trump, many have wondered if Marco Rubio might be picked as his VP running mate. Recent interviews with Rubio suggest that he is warming to Trump after his loss in Florida and that the Senator may be a perfect fit for the Trump ticket to help unite the party.
Rubio has high favorability ratings and with his Cuban background, he might help offset hispanic voters aversion to Trump.
What’s Next For John Kasich?
Ohio Gov. John Kasich was playing the odds of a contested convention. He formed a loose alliance with Cruz in Indiana, which ended up backfiring. With Trump’s momentum against Cruz, his nomination is bound to happen as soon as he wraps up the next few primary elections. Kasich’s choice to remain in the race after winning only one state puzzled many as he continued on with zero chance of winning. Perhaps he fought on for a favorable speaking spot at the convention or used the opportunity to try out for a VP slot. Either way, any further campaigning by Kasich is a waste of donor’s money.
