The “March Against Fear” canceled due to fear of terrorists

The “March Against Fear event planned for Sunday to show solidarity against terror was canceled due to fear of active terrorist threats. Event organizers stopped the event as security concerns grew.

“We understand this request. The security of our citizens is an absolute priority. We join the authorities in proposing a delay and ask people not to come this Sunday,” the event organizers said in a statement they made Saturday.

Local Belgium authorities requested that the “March Against Fear” be postponed for a few weeks while the police focused their resources on finding the terrorist conspirators responsible for the airport and subway bombings. This attack killed 31 people and injured 300 more.

The Belgium Interior Minister said “We invite the citizens tomorrow to not have this manifestation,” to the event organizers and potential march attendees.

In an effort to show that Brussels refuses to be intimidated by terror, the “March Against Fear” was organized. Residents, weary of reports of new threats and intelligence lapses felt a need to stand up to radical Islamic terrorists.

The AFP reported, “This week, we, Belgian citizens have been attacked, in how we live, our customs, our rights, our liberty,” they said.

“The first reaction in such events is to withdraw but on reflection, fear must give way to hope and the defense of our values.”

At 2:00 pm the march was set to begin at the central Place de La Bourse. The plaza has turned into a shrine for the bombing victims and is carpeted with flowers.

The mayor of Brussels understood the people’s request to hold this “March Against Fear” and wanted to join. Fear of ongoing terrorism put a end to those plans.

The march is set to be postponed until fear of the terrorist threat is lifted. Ongoing anti-terror operations are focused on finding and stopping additional terror attacks. Residents of the world recognize the irony.
