3 Tips to Make Social Isolation More Comfortable

People across the globe are self-quarantining right now to try to protect themselves and others against the spread of the coronavirus. While taking these measures is necessary for public health and safety, it can weigh you down mentally when you have to break your usual routines and isolate yourself from others. There are things you can do to make the most of this time though, and here are some tips for how to survive during isolation.

Stay Active

Now more than ever, it’s important to stay active and healthy. Exercise helps boost both your immune system and your endorphins, giving you just what you need to thrive. Even though you can’t make it to the gym right now, there are plenty of exercises you can do right in the comfort of your own home to reach your fitness goals. Squats, planks, and lunges are all fantastic body-weight exercises that don’t require any equipment. There are also many free exercise videos that you can stream from YouTube or other platforms if you’re looking for some guidance. For a more spontaneous workout, Get Fit Fiona suggests that you turn on a fun playlist and break a sweat while you bust a move!

Improve Your Surroundings

Since you’ll be spending a lot of time at home, you’ll want to make it as comfortable as possible. Give yourself a place where you can work from home in comfort. Try to brighten the interior and atmosphere of your home. Desert Empire Mirror & Glass suggests that the best way to make a room feel more spacious and improve the natural lighting on a budget is to add mirrors. These will significantly improve the quality of life in your home.

Connect With Others Virtually

Even though you’re in social isolation, you don’t need to be lonely! Remember that there are so many other people right now who are in the same situation as you and could benefit from someone to talk to. Phone, email and video chat are all great ways to connect with those you miss while still maintaining a safe distance. Take this time right now when things might be a little slower to reach out to family and friends and let them know you care.

Social isolation isn’t ideal, but there are so many things you can do to make it more manageable. Make sure to take care of yourself and your loved ones during this time and do what you can to remain positive.
