Winter Storm Warning in South East Idaho

POCATELLO — The National Weather Service in Pocatello issued a blizzard or winter storm warning for much of eastern Idaho Friday. The warnings are in effect until 8 p.m.

Temperatures on Friday are expected to plummet to the coldest of the season and skin will be susceptible to frostbite if exposed to the weather for too long, according to the alert. Temperatures are expected to fall to 20 below zero by this evening.

Northerly winds will gradually increase throughout the day. By noon, wind gusts are expected near 60 mph along Interstate 15 between the Montana and Utah border. Gusts of 45 mph are expected on U.S. Highway 20 from the Montana border to Ashton.

As a result, there may be near zero visibility at times from falling and blowing snow.

Whiteout conditions will make travel extremely dangerous. The National Weather Service advises people not to travel. If you must travel take a winter survival kit with you and if you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.
