Surgeries That Can Improve Your Vision

Having a great vision should be at the top of everyone’s priority list. When you can’t see well, it’s really hard to get through your day. But as you age and your vision changes, it can be difficult to know what options are available to you depending on your issues with your vision. Being aware of the plethora of options out there will help you make the best decisions about your eyesight.

LASIK Surgery

According to the Georgia Center for Sight, LASIK surgery is one of the most common vision corrective surgeries. It involves using a laser to reshape the eyes so that they see more accurately. This procedure offers great benefits—it’s relatively cost-effective and results in you being able to ditch the glasses and contacts. But it’s important that you do your research beforehand because this surgery works optimally in patients with certain conditions. For example, younger individuals are advised to wait until they are at least twenty years old (probably older) before getting LASIK because their prescription could still change.

Cataract Surgery

Cataracts are another major problem that affects many people’s vision. Cataracts usually involve the vision becoming blurry even when using contacts or glasses.

Thankfully cataract surgery is a great option with a high success rate and relatively little downtime. Simply put, the surgeon goes in and removes the clouded lens in the eye and replaces it with an artificial clear lens. While it is an outpatient procedure, it’s still important to be careful in recovery. There are a variety of things that a patient could do to stint recovery.  For example, according to DEXYCU, using steroids after cataract surgery can delay healing and cause other complications.

Astigmatism Corrective Surgery

According to Coastwide Eye Surgery, another eye surgery that can dramatically improve eyesight for those with astigmatisms is called astigmatic keratotomy (AK). Astigmatisms are caused by a misshapen curvature of the cornea. This mishappen nature results in an inability to focus light rays into one spot, making it incredibly difficult to see properly.

AK surgery simply involves two incisions on the cornea in order to allow the cornea to relax and shape back into a more round correct shape which then allows the light to be focused correctly.

Prioritizing your eyesight is important for your well-being. If you feel the need to have corrective surgery performed to improve your eyesight, don’t hesitate to contact your doctor. Consult with them carefully to best understand how all the different options related to your specific situation.
