IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Idaho Falls District is seeking seasonal wildland firefighters and has scheduled an evening on Wednesday, Dec. 7, to help interested applicants navigate the USAJOBS website. From 4:30-9 p.m. District fire staff will be on hand to answer questions and assist with the application process at the College of Southern Idaho – Idaho Falls Center Building located at 1235 Jones St., Idaho Falls.
The application period begins Nov. 28, 2016, and continues until March 28, 2017. However, applications must be submitted by Jan. 24, 2017, for primary consideration. Previous firefighting experience is not a requirement for entry-level positions. “We are always looking for a diverse and motivated workforce,” said Fire Operations Specialist Cory Berkebile. “We want to make sure no one is eliminated from possible selection based on something as small as an unchecked box in our online hiring system.”
The Idaho Falls District manages 3.9 million acres of land, where an average of 30 fires totaling 40,000 acres burn annually. Firefighters from the BLM also work closely with other state and federal agency land managers. Local firefighters may get the opportunity to travel to other states to fight wildfires, or to work with the Snake River Hotshots, local helitack crews and fuels modules.
