How to Develop Your Own Indie Video Game

It used to be more difficult to get a game developed, especially without the backing of a large video game manufacturer. Now though, it is easier than ever to produce your own indie video game that you can share through a variety of methods. There are tools available that can make the development of your game much easier and additional tools you can use for distribution and other tasks.

A Design Program

Your first step is to choose a design program. There are tons of options available that can help you to build a video game. The software you choose can vary based on your budget, your skill level, and the kind of game you want to make. There are even free versions of video game design software that you can use for your first indie video game. You should take some time to explore a few options before settling on a particular program. That way you will know you have chosen an option that meets your needs and your budget.

3D Assets

For most games it is also helpful to have 3D assets that you can manipulate to create your characters and items. It is very useful to have a library of these assets at your disposal, so you don’t have to create every element of your game from scratch. There are many 3D assets available for indie developers. These assets function as models that you can use to populate your game and create a cohesive world. You can save your changes to assets so you can continue using them in various parts of the game or even in future games.

A Team

You can make indie games on your own, but you will have better success if you have a team to work with. Putting together an indie game making team will help you to make sure that you can complete the project in a reasonable time frame. Try to cultivate a team of like minded people who all can bring different skills to the table. That way you can work together to make the best possible game and make up for any gaps in knowledge that any one individual may have.

Building your indie game will take time and the right tools to make it turn out right. But if you can pull a great team together, you can end up with an amazing final product. And you never know where your indie game will take you.
