How to Deal with Seasonal Depression This Winter

Seasonal depression is a common issue with many people, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t difficult. While seasonal depression is something that can happen at any time, you likely have a higher chance of experiencing seasonal depression during the pandemic. This is how you can deal with seasonal depression this winter and start feeling better.

Talk to Your Doctor

If you are experiencing symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder, otherwise known as SAD, you should talk to your doctor right away. Seasonal depression can be very serious and difficult to deal with which is why you should get help right away. Medications or therapy can be incredibly helpful when treating seasonal depression.

However, just like with any treatments, it will probably take you some trial and error. Medications work differently for different people and you may have to do some adjusting before you find a medication that works for you. Like medications, finding the right therapist for you may also take some trial and error. There are different treatments that you can try, like talk therapy, that may help you deal with your seasonal depression better.

Use Natural Solutions

In addition to medications and therapy, there are more natural solutions that you can try. Getting more sleep is a key option for treating depression, especially seasonal depression, as well as light therapy. You can buy light boxes that can help you boost your mood and manage your Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Taking melatonin can help you to get on a better sleep schedule and start to feel better and treat insomnia if you suffer from it. CBD can also alleviate insomnia, which can be a symptom of SAD. However, before taking CBD, check with a medical professional and only use it in the proper doses.

Diet and Exercise

Having a balanced diet and getting regular exercise will also help you treat your Seasonal Affective Disorder. Eating less junk food and eating more healthy foods like leafy greens, other vegetables, fruits, and whole grains will help you to start feeling better. Getting enough exercise, like walking, jogging, or using a stationary bike, can all help you to get moving and feeling better soon.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a difficult thing to deal with at any time, but especially during a pandemic. If you are currently experiencing SAD, there are things that you can do to start feeling better. Starting small and trying every day will help you to deal with your seasonal depression.
