There’s a new business in downtown Idaho Falls—and a delicious one at that. The space that once held Lily’s Consignment has been remodeled and is now home to City Bagel & Bakery.
Located at the corner of Shoup Avenue and A street, in the 101-year-old Shane building, City Bagel & Bakery is the creation of owners Lynn and Gene Winter. Seven days a week the Winters and their staff offer fresh bagels and other baked goods, homemade soup, gourmet coffee, and more.
The shop, which specializes in gourmet sandwiches on freshly made bagels, has only been in business a few weeks, but it’s already making a name for itself and is quickly growing in popularity. There’s been a steady flow of customers since their doors opened on October 15.
As implied by its name, the stars of the restaurant are its bagels. Until now, a really good bagel has been hard to come by in Idaho Falls. And City Bagel customers all agree these bagels are better than really good: They are amazing.
The bagels made at City Bagel are soft with the perfect chew—especially when toasted. Upon walking through the door, folks are greeted by a window featuring the standard bagel varieties from plain, sesame seed, and cinnamon raisin to Parmesan, asiago, and the quintessential “everything” bagel.
The bagels are tasty enough that they can be enjoyed plain—or with a schmear of any one of a handful of different-flavored cream cheeses. But these bagels are at their best as sandwiches featuring vibrant ingredients like corned beef, lox, or fresh vegetables. City Bagel & Bakery also serves up a wide variety of gluten-free baked goods.
From 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, City Bagel offers an expanded menu that features several unique appetizer dishes—perfect for sharing with a group of friends or taking down on one’s own. From candied bacon, shrimp skewers, and lamb sliders to a baked brie dish with dried fruit, puff pastry, and a drizzle of local honey, there’s something for everyone. And again—everything is made fresh in house.
It’s early on, but City Bagel & Bakery has all the hallmarks any restaurant needs to attract and maintain loyal patronage: quality food, friendly customer service, and a unique offering that people can’t get anywhere else locally.
City Bagel & Bakery is located at 369 Shoup Avenue in downtown Idaho Falls and is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
