Healthcare professionals are starting to put an emphasis on the need for daily exercise. However, many people just can’t seem to fit exercise into their day due to a lack of time. If you’re among them and you’d like to get a bit more exercise than you do now, here are three ideas you can implement right away, even when your schedule is packed.
Take Walk Breaks
Many people spend their lunch hour or their coffee breaks, sitting at their desks, staring at their computer screens. However, this time doesn’t have to be downtime. A lunch hour or coffee break can be used to incorporate short walks into the workday. These walk breaks not only give a person a breath of fresh air, but they also provide a much-needed mental break as well.
It’s generally recommended to get an hour of physical activity each day, but the good news is that you don’t have to do it all at once. If you don’t have a long time to take a walk break, split up your walking into 15- or 20-minute increments throughout the day. This has the same benefits as doing it all at once and can be good for people who don’t have a very flexible schedule at work.
Make It Part of Your Commute
Cycling to work has some added benefits besides allowing you to enjoy a stint of exercise, though this is a big benefit of riding your bike to work. If you live in a city where there is a greenbelt, then your ride to work may be a lot quicker than if you drive. Riding on greenways like these pull you off the streets and into nature. That being said, if you live in a place that doesn’t have a greenbelt, you can still ride to work. You’ll want to take some precautions, though. When you bike to work, make sure you take care to follow basic safety precautions to make sure you have a safe commute. Wear a helmet and obey traffic laws. Also, make sure that you wear clothes that are bright and easy to see to make you more visible to automobile traffic.
Yard Work and Other Tasks
In some places in the world, people don’t actually spend a lot of time in the gym, yet they’re still fit and trim. The reason why this is the case is that they regularly partake in activities like gardening and other physical tasks. Mowing the lawn, raking leaves and pulling weeds all count as excellent physical activities. They work your muscles and get your heart pumping. Like the bike commute to work, they’re also tasks you have to complete, anyway. You might as well use them to your advantage by making them part of your exercise routine.
Although a good workout in the gym makes you feel strong and is good for you, it isn’t always possible to get to the gym if your schedule is busy. However, if you give this matter a little thought, you’ll see that there are ways to build physical activity into your day.
